News & Activities

On March 1, 2026, maonah Community Development Center, in partnership with Muna Social Services and Alarabi Market, successfully concluded our food distribution initiative in front of Al-Ihsan Mosque at 406 St Marks Place, Staten Island.

We are proud to have distributed 160 bags of food across two in-person sessions (2 PM and 8 PM) to support families in our community.

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated volunteers and partners for making this initiative possible. Together We Rise.

Food distribution is part of maonah’s Wellness & Family programs.

maonah Center, in partnership with the Muslim Student Association (MSA) at Curtis High School, hosted a special Eid al-Fitr celebration on Wednesday, April 15, at 3:00 PM at Curtis High School in Staten Island.

The student gathering celebrated Eid and promoted cultural understanding and connection within the school community — a moment to celebrate diversity, unity, and togetherness.

Refreshments were generously provided by Qahwah House and Bora Bora.

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, maonah Community Development Center came together to celebrate the incredible mothers in our community — an afternoon filled with love, laughter, sisterhood, and appreciation for the women who give so much every day.

From henna and special gifts to heartfelt words and moments of recognition, the celebration — held at Moka & Cō (Second Floor, 7500 5th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11209) from 3:00 to 6:00 PM — was a reminder of how important it is to celebrate and uplift one another.

Thank You to Our Supporters

  • Moka & Cō for warmly hosting us
  • Sheel & Mashi for supporting this community gathering
  • Dr. Laila Farhat and Jenna Healthcare for their continued support and dedication

And thank you to every mother, sister, and family member who joined us. Your presence made the celebration unforgettable. Together, We Rise.

As a hybrid and virtual center, maonah works hand-in-hand with community partners and local organizations to host events where they are needed most — including our partners at the NYPD.

Building Bridges

At a recent maonah community event, members of the NYPD joined our families for an afternoon of recognition and connection, with certificates of recognition presented alongside the Yemeni and American flags.

Fostering community engagement — civic participation, cultural enrichment, and volunteerism that build unity and pride within the community — is one of maonah’s core goals, and partnerships like this one bring it to life.

Every organization’s name tells a story. Ours reaches back more than nine centuries.

The Legacy of Queen maonah

We chose our name in honor of Queen maonah bint Ahmad, a remarkable Yemeni queen who led with wisdom and strength more than 900 years ago. Known for advancing education and community development, her legacy reflects the very values we uphold today. At maonah, we don’t just provide services; we carry forward a 900-year-old tradition of leadership and compassion.

Four Pillars

maonah also stands for the four pillars that guide everything we do: Awareness, Resilience, Wellness, and Advocacy.

Empowering individuals and families through education, leadership, and advocacy — that is our mission, and our name is our promise. Together We Rise.
